Lubbock, located in the Llano Estacado area of northwestern Texas, is the 10th most populous city in the state. It’s an economic, educational, and health-care hub, home to Texas Tech University and in an area that’s the largest contiguous cotton-growing region in the world. For a city of 320,000, the options for running in Lubbock aren’t great. The best bets are some lakeside trails north and east of downtown.
The best place to run in Lubbock are the paths along the narrow lake in Hodges Park. At Dunbar Historical Lake, there’s some scenic road running, a running track, and several miles of trails popular for trail running. Adjacent Mackenzie Park also has nice paths for running. Head over to the large campus of Texas Tech University, where there are many miles of pleasant pedestrian paths, Urbanovsky City Park, Fuller Track.
Note: summer temperatures in Lubbock can be brutally hot, and the area’s terrain is very open & exposed. Take the right precautions!
