Dunbar Historical Lake Loop

Google Street View

The loop around Dunbar Historical Lake is another favorite run in Lubbock. The lake is popular for its fishing and mountain biking trails. There are a couple of running options in this area.

Road Run: Many runners enjoy a road run and lake views using Canyon Lake Drive. It’s wide and not too heavily trafficked, tough there is no sidewalk or shoulder. Starting from the Canyon Lakes east parking lot, the short loop is just shy of 3 miles, making a loop between MLK, Jr. Blvd. and Dunbar Lake Dam. For a 5.1 mile loop, continue north on Canyon Lake Dr. to Cesar Chavez Dr. in Mackenzie Park. There are additional trails in Mackenzie Park.  There’s also a running track on the west side of the lake at Dunbar College Preparatory Academy.

Trail Run. There’s a network of trails on the east side of the lake, extending from the parking lot south, to just south of the Dam. Trails closer to the lake are flatter, and get hillier away from the lake. Note: these trails are popular for mountain biking, so please use caution
