Mackenzie Park

Creative Commons: Fredlyfish4

Mackenzie Park is a good spot for a run. It’s located near downtown Lubbock, just east of I-27. The park is a large open space, with sports fields, a disc golf course, and Prairie Dog Town at the northeastern end.

For running, it’s possible to do a 3-4 mile run, creating your own route on the interweaving trails. There are some paved surfaces and some dirt/gravel trails. There’s a small lake at the park’s southern end.

Add-On/Longer Run: Mackenzie Park can be combined with our Dunbar Historical Lake route, using Canyon Lake Drive, whose north end is at the Disc Golf course in Mackenzie Park.

Essentials
  • Several miles of trails in the park -- best to create your own route
  • Some rolling hills
  • Parking lot near the Buddy Holly Gazebo
  • Best parking is off Cesar Chavez Dr. just south of Parkway Dr.
