Metz, France

CC 3.0: Marek BLAHUŠ

Metz is a city in northeast France, located at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers. It’s a green city, and home to numerous important buildings, including the Metz Cathedral, the Saint-Pierre Basilica (oldest church in France), and world-class concert venues including the Opera House. There’s some lovely running in Metz, mainly focused on paths along the rivers and canals.

Start with our Metz ‘Runseeing‘ tour, which hits the historic highlights and includes some nice waterfront sections. One of the best places to run in Metz is the paths along the Moselle River, which we’ve divided into northern and southern sections. There’s nice running along the Canal de Moselle and the Seille River as well. One of the most scenic runs in Metz is the Étang des Veaux, paths around several ponds. In Maizières-lès-Metz, enjoy running around Park Brieux.

The Mettis bus system is a great way to get around Metz. Runners should note that day length varies significantly throughout the year.
