Pamplona is a city of 200,000 and the capital of Navarre. It’s in the north central part of Spain, about 100 km from the coast. Located on the Agra River, Pamplona has a compact historical section, with many newer areas as population and housing expanded. The best running in Pamplona centers on the Agra River, and several small parks. There aren’t any large green spaces or longer multi-use paths in the city.
The best place to run in Pamplona are the 4-5 km of paths along the Arga River, which pass through several parks. Our ‘runseeing‘ tour features key sites in the historical center, plus the fort (Ciudadela) and several important parks. We’ve also put together a run combining Yamaguchi Park and the campus of the University of Navarre. In Barañáin, a short but pleasant run combines Parque de la Constitución, a running track, and some paths along the Arga. And of course there’s the annual Run of the Bulls. Yes, it’s dangerous, but 20,000 runners participate annually!
Runner Notes: Pamplona weather can be quite hot in summer, though nights cool off.
