This is a terrific ‘runseeing’ tour of Pamplona, featuring an excellent variety: a fort, parks & gardens, riverfront paths, and some key cultural and architectural sites. Most of the route is in or around the historic center, which lies just south of the Arga River.
Start at the Casco Antiguo de Pamplona, a classic large square. Head south, passing the 11th-century Saint Nicholas Church to the Ciudadela de Pamplona, a 16th-century pentagonal fortress. There are some scenic, hilly paths with some nice views. Head back toward the center, into the Jardines de la Taconera, a natural park with ancient walls. From the viewpoint (Mirador), use the Po. de Ruda path toward the Arga River and then head east on the north bank paths for 0.6 km through Parque de la Runa/Parque de Aranzadi.
The final section is 1.5 km on the east side of the center, on a path along an old city wall (Rda. Obispo Barbazán), with good views of the Catedral Metropolitana de Santa María la Real de Pamplona and the historic center below. Continue through Parque de la Media Luna, which has a nice path over the northern part of Pamplona. To complete the route, head west along Av. de la Barra Navarra.
Add-Ons: Can explore the streets of the historic center (Calle Mayor is pedestrianized), or more paths along the Arga River.
