Pohang is a city of 500,000 in North Gyeongsang Province, bordering the Sea of Japan. It’s an important commercial center, a major fishery, and an increasingly popular tourism destination for its beaches. It’s a busy, industrial city. The best options for running in Pohang are centered on its waterfront and paths along the Hyeongsan River.

We’ve designed three waterfront routes that can be mix & matched, all centrally located: a loop around Songdo; paths along the Sea of Japan to Hwanho Park; and many km of paths along the Hyeongsan River. Another popular place to run in Pohang is the Railroad Forest Greenway, modeled after New York City’s Highline Trail. North of Pohang in the Buk-Gu area, there’s ~4 km of running along the water, which can be combined with Sabang Memorial Park. There are several beaches in Pohang that are runnable, and some challenging trail running in the Mount Naeyeon area.

Runner Notes: on the three waterfront area routes, be sure to check out the Pohang Jukdo fish market. Famous for its fish auction!
