There are nearly 20 km of scenic waterfront running in Pohang, showcasing the city’s location on the Hyeongsan River and the Sea of Japan. We’ve created three distinct routes, which can be mix & matched in various ways. This route is a loop around Songdo (Songdo-dong), mainly on roads and paths along the water. Our thanks to Lena Andersson of Go! Running Tours for suggesting this route!
Start by running across the pedestrian-friendly bridge that links downtown Pohang to Songdo-dong. Head north on Unha-ro, passing a forested city park on your right. Loop around the northern tip of the island and then run south on the waterfront path alongside Huimang-daero road and Songdo Beach for 1.5 km to the Coast Guard Station. There are some nice views out the the harbor and the Sea of Japan. Continue south through Hyeongsangang Park for 1 km, and then loop back north for the final 2 km on a waterfront path paralleling Unha-ro. On this section, you’ll pass the famous Pohang Jukdo Seafood Market. Note: Beach isn’t great for running.
Add-On Options: Instead of looping back on Unha-ro to the start, you can continue south through Hyeongsangang Park and along the Hyeongsan River for several km (see our route). Alternatively, from the start/end point at Sondo bridge, run north for up to 6 km to Hwanho Sunrise Park. There’s a decent waterfront path most of the way.

Nice waterfront run on a wide sidewalk with great views of the Sea of Japan. Up to 6 km one-way from the Ferry Terminal north to Hwanho Sunrise Park, with additional paths there. Can combine w/Songdo & Hyeongsan River routes.
Many km of paved, dedicated paths along the Hyeongsan River. A loop between Pohang Stadium and just shy of Yugang Bridge is 9 km. Add with 3.5 km path through Hyeongsangang Park to where the river meets the Sea of Japan!
Completed in 2022, this paved, 6.6 km multi-use trail runs along a former rail line. Linear park route featuring separate pedestrian and cycle paths, seating areas, outdoor gym stations, and cultural features. Lit at night!
In this beach area north of Pohand, there's ~4 km of running on a quieter coastal road, featuring nice sea views. Add with modern Sabang Memorial Park, which has paths leading to a hilltop with nice views.
Centrally located Yeongildae Beach and Pohang Songdo Beach are runnable and can be part of our Songdo & Hyeongsan River routes. Just north of the city, Wolpo Beach stretches for 2 km and is runnable.
