Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is a beach resort city on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía de Banderas in the Mexican state of Jalisc. It’s a popular visitor destination for its tropical beaches, surfing, and surrounding mountains scenery. Running in Puerto Vallarta can present a bit of a challenge, since many of the streets are cobblestone and the beaches tend to be softer sand. But there are some decent spots, centered on the beachfront and the more developed hotel areas.

The best place to run in Puerto Vallarta is along the Malecón, which can be combined with the Isla Cuale. In the Zona Hotelera area, enjoy the palm-lined roads and the Anador Fluvial Linear Park path. We also like running around the Marina Vallarta and the nicely landscaped roads along the Marina Vallarta Golf Club. The best beach for running is in Nuevo Vallarta. Trail runners will find great options in the surrounding mountains.

Runners should note that Puerto Vallarta’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with distinct wet and dry seasons.
