Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Malecón Puerto Vallarta & Isla Cuale

The Malecón is the signature running spot in Puerto Vallarta. The paved, palm-lined seafront promenade runs along Playa Los Muertos — Puerto Vallarta’s signature beach — featuring great views of the Bahía de Banderas and the Pacific. A festive scene and a particular treat at sunset!

The northern end of the Malecón starts at C. 31 du Octubre, and goes south to the end of the beach, just past Pilitas. It’s 2.8 km one-way, including a scenic jaunt out Los Muertos Beach Pier.

Longer Option: Add on the 1.2 km loop around Isla Cuale. This is a lovely, tree-shaded island that comes off the Malecón, with a paved path through the middle. The path is lined with shops that are part of a popular flea market — so best to hit this early. At the east end, the Gringo Gulch Bridge is a popular attraction…and a fun run over this stair/bridge crossing the Rio Cuale.

Add-On: Mirador. From the Malecón, you can run up to the Hill of the Cross Viewpoint (Mirador el Cerro de la Cruz). It’s 600m, climbing 76m. Great views of the city, the water, & surrounding mountains.
