Tarragona, Spain

Tarragona is a city 100 km west of Barcelona, located on the Costa Daurada area on the Mediterranean shore, around the mouth of the Francolí River. It’s an important economic area for its large port, and a popular tourist destination for its long beaches, Roman ruins, and the Rambla Nova. There’s a nice variety of running in Tarragona, with seafront promenades, beaches, and coastal trails and wooded trail running spots.

A great place to start is with our ‘runseeing’ tour, includes the city’s Part Alta, the wide Rambla Nova, & Francolí riverfront park. There’s also 6.5 km of scenic seafront running, on a promenade and out a long fishing pier. Several of the area’s popular beaches are runnable. In the western part of the city, the Anella Mediterrània sports complex has trails and a good running track. Trail runners will love the Forest of the Marquesa coastal paths, Bassa closa, and other trails in the hilly interior.

Runner Notes: Summer weather can be hot. Be careful about exposure and consider more shaded, wooded trails.
