The seafront promenade along Playa El Miracle (beach) is one of the signature running spots in Tarragona. A tree-lined dedicated path runs along the beach, with wide open views of the Mediterranean Sea. The official promenade is 1.5 km, but you can continue on a path along the fishing pier to the Far de la Banya (lighthouse) and even further for a run of up to 6.5 km one-way! PRO TIP: Beautiful sunrises!
The eastern end of the promenade starts at the histroic Fortí de la Reina (fort). Do a loop around the port, and then join the promenade path, which parallels the Passeig Marítim along the beach (Note: the beach is soft sand but can be runnable near the water). There’s a dedicated pedestrian path, with some sections featuring separate red brick and gravel surfaces. Run west along the beach for 1.5 km. You can see the Roman Amphitheater on the other side of the train tracks.
At the west end of the beach, a paved path continues around the marina, and then out along the fishing pier. It’s another 3 km to the Far de la Banya (lighthouse & museum), and another 1.5 km to the end of the pier. There are open views of the water. Note: the pier is exposed, with little shade.
Add-Ons: At the fort at the east end, a trail continues east of the fort, and there’s a good walking path along the Passeig Marítim for another ~1 km. In the marina area, you can also join the paths along the Francolí (Parque Fluvial).
