This 10k ‘Runseeing’ tour of Tarragona has it all! A jaunt around the historic center (Part Alta), the 2 km pedestrianized Rambla Nova in the newer section, the trails in the riverfront Riu Francolí park, and a nice finish along the seafront promenade.
Part Alta. Jorge Franganillo
Start in the older section near the Roman Amphitheater/Circus. The Part Alta features ancient pre-Roman walls, a 12th-century cathedral, and a medieval layout of narrow, windy streets. Use Carrer Major as the anchor, and then connect to the Pg. Arqueològic — an 0.8 km gravel path along the Roman walls, passing key sites. Make your way back to the seafront passing through the large Plaça de la Font square.
The next section is the Rambla Nova — a wide, pedestrianized thoroughfare lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s a festive and busy scene! You’ll pass the imposing fountains at the Plaça de la Imperial Tàrraco roundabout, and the Torre dels Vents monument. Add a quick jaunt around the Parc de la Ciutat, just west of the Rambla (~1 km loop on the trails). Just past there, join the paths of the Riu Francolí park, which runs for 2 km along the Francolí river. It’s an open space with dirt paths — not particularly landscaped.
At the south end of the park, use the Prolongació Passeig Independència to connect to the marina path and then the seafront promenade, heading east for 2.5 km along Platja del Miracle (beach) back to the start. Enjoy the great water views!
Add-Ons: Can continue further east on the seafront promenade and trails.

The seafront promenade along Playa El Miracle (beach) is one of the signature running spots in Tarragona. There are great beach and water views. Combine with the path out the fishing pier for a scenic route of up to 6.5 km!
Sprawling sports complex in the western part of Tarragona. There's ~2 km of trails around the park-like grounds, and a terrific running track. Add with the pedestrian median along Carrer Riu Segre. And a post-run swim in the outdoor pool!
There are several longer beaches east of Tarragona that can be decent for running, with firm sand near the water (situationally): Platja Llarga, Platja d'Altafulla, and Playa Torredembarra
There are some good trail running options in the Tarragona area. Just east of Platja Llarga is the scenic Camí de Ronda coastal trail and the Bosc de la Marquesa. Above the A7, hilly trail running in the Bassa closa.
