Tirana, Albania

Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania. It’s surrounded by mountains, with the Adriatic located 30 km to the west. Though there are many large, unattractive Soviet-era buildings, things are changing, including new, chic neighborhoods and revised roadway designs. There’s some decent running in Tirana, highlighted by several notable parks and artificial lakes. Those who love hills and trail running will find lots of options in the surrounding hillside.

Tirana Park is the centerpiece of running in Tirana, with numerous paths/trails, a running track, and other features. There’s also pleasant running along the Lana River, which flows through town. This can be confined with our Tirana ‘Runseeing’ tour. Runners will also enjoy the paths around Farka Lake & Lake Paskuqanit. For some destination running, head 30 km west to Durrës, where there’s scenic running along the Adriatic coast and a tour of the city’s Roman ruins.

Notes: Tirana can have poor air. Also, summer temperatures can be quite hot.
