Valladolid, Spain

Valladolid is a metro area of nearly 500,000 and the capital of the province of Valladolid. It lies at the confluence of the Pisuerga and Esgueva rivers. Valladolid is a popular visitor destination for its historic center and the area winegrowing region. There’s some nice running in Valladolid, with several km of river & canal paths, plus several excellent, hilly parks.

The signature run in Valladolid is the ~5 km of paths along the Río Pisuerga, which includes several riverside parks. Near the south end is a fantastic pedestrian bridge leading to our route combining the hilly, scenic Parque de los Almendros & Parque urbano de las Contiendas. Our ‘runseeing’ tour hits the highlights of the historic center, including the lovely Parque Campo Grande. For an easy, flat run, there are good paths on both sides of the Canal de Castilla, including the Jardín Botánico.

Runner Notes: Summers are hot and many of the trails are open & exposed.

Valladolid has hot-summer Mediterranean climate with influences of a cold semi-arid climate. Summers are hot and dry, with high temperatures near 31C (88F), though nights cool off pleasantly (14C/58F). Winters are windy and cooler due to the interior location and altitude. Highs average 8C (47F) while lows are near freezing. Note there can be frequent morning fog in winter. There are 430mm (17 inches) of average annual rainfall, but summers are quite dry.

We recommend staying in the area of the historic center. There are plentiful accommodation options. This provides access to our most of our best routes in Valladolid.
