Randall’s Island is one of Manhattan’s running treats. The island, accessible via bridges from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens, features miles of trails passing 330 acres of parkland and 60+ athletic fields. There are some great skyline views. This island map shows the access points and the many trail options. There are pedestrian bridges, and also a pedestrian path over the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge from Queens. There have been improvements to the river paths and fields in recent years.
For running, there are 10 miles of trails, This running/biking map shows several running options, with several marked routes. A highlight is the 5-mile Randall’s Island Perimeter loop, which includes vistas of three of three NYC boroughs, ports fields, gardens, and an urban farm. There are also 5k Northern & Southern Loops, a 5k out & back route at the southern end of the island, and a 1.5 mile bridge tour. There’s also a great running track at Icahn Stadium.
Add-Ons; On the Queen’s side there additional paths and a running track in Astoria Park, and a 1-mile waterfront path alongside Shore Blvd. On the Harlem side, there’s waterfront running on the Bobby Wagner Walk alongside FDR Drive (Note: parts in rough shape — there are plans to improve it).
