Point Au Roche State Park

Creative Commons

Point Au Roche State Park, located 8 miles north of Plattsburgh, is a great spot for some easy trail running. The park is on the northwestern shore of Lake Champlain, and features 15+ miles of trails from forest to marsh to shoreline, over a mix of open & wooded areas. There are three sections of trails: Treadwell Bay, Long Point, and Connor Bay.

There are wonderful options for loops, as shown in this trail map. Easier is the 1.6-mile Philip C. Walker Memorial Trail, which can be combined with the 4.1 mile Long Point Trail for a longer run. Also easier is the 1.4-mile Bike Path in the Treadwell Bay area, which can be combined with the 2.3 mile Treadwell Bay trail, featuring some nice water views. On Connor Bay, there’s the adjacent 2.1-mile Connor Bay loop and the 1.9-mile Rams Head trail.

Essentials
  • 15+ of trails. See trail map for different loop options
  • 66 feet (20m)
  • Depends on trail chosen
  • There are parking lots in each of the three main areas. Best parking & facilities is on Treadwell Bay
