Kelvin Peninsula – Frankton Arm Walk

Creative Commons: André Richard Chalmers

Starting from the Queenstown trail on the other side of the Kawarau Bridge, this route on the south side of Frankton Arm features stunning views of Queenstown and the Remarkables Mountains. The trail, called the Frankton Arm Walk, is a combination paved and gravel path along the shore of the Frankton Arm of Lake WakatipuIt. The full loop, including a loop around the Queenstown Golf Course, is 13.3 km (8.25 miles). If you want a break during the run, there are plenty of nice swimming spots and picnic areas along the way!

Start at the Ferry terminal near the Hilton or Doubletree, paralleling Peninsula Rd., head west along the trail. At the 2 km mark, reach the Franklin Preserve, and run through that for 1 km. At 5 km, just past the Peninsular Hotel, reach the peninsula and public restroom (this is a good place for a turnaround if you prefer a shorter loop). Do a 3 km tour of the peninsula, around the golf club. Fantastic views!  To complete the loop, use Grove Lane at the 8 km mark to rejoin the trail.

Add-On: an extra ~1 km out to Jardine Park.
