This is a scenic waterfront run between the coastal towns of Zarautz and Getaria, west of San Sebastián. The route includes an optional section to the Mount San Anton lookout.

Start with the 2 km waterfront promenade along the popular Zarautz Beach. From the river headed west, the first section is a wooden boardwalk, which then turns into a more traditional paved promenade (Zarauzko itsas paseoa). Note: Beach also runnable.

The next section is along the N-634 road for up to 3.5 km to Getaria. It’s a main road, but there’s a separated sidewalk along the water side that’s popular with pedestrians. There are fantastic views of the Bay of Biscay. There are a couple of uphill sections.

In Getaria, there’s a worth-it option to add the path to the Mount San Anton lookout. Run for 0.5 km through town along the marina, and then a steep 0.7 km, 70m climb to the lookout/lighthouse. There are some additional stairs in the area to get the heart rate up!

Add-On: Just east of Zarautz Beach and across the river, there’s a long series of stairs that lead to additional trails/hiking paths in the hills above the bay. Very scenic trail running!
