Santa Cruz Riverwalk

Coastal Watershed Council

The Santa Cruz Riverwalk is a pleasant off-road running option along the San Lorenzo River, easily accessible from downtown. It’s a great 4-mile loop, using paths on both sides of the river. There are a couple of pedestrian bridges and a couple of roads that you can also use for a short bridge crossing. Or mapped route starts at the train station, heading out on the northern side of the trail. From there, it’s 0.5 miles to Riverside Ave., 1.1 miles to Soquel Ave., 1.4 miles to Water St., and 1.9 miles to the pedestrian bridge just west of Rt. 1. Return on the southern side of the riverwalk, with the last brief section along E. Cliff Rd. and the crossing on the unique San Lorenzo River Railroad Bridge.

Add-Ons: Great coastal running west of the train station, on Beach St., W. Cliff Dr., and out Municipal Pier.

Essentials
  • Full loop is 4 miles (6.4 km), or choose shorter loops using bridges
  • 66 feet
  • Train Station right near downtown
