This is a short but scenic run exploring historic downtown Breckenridge. While Breckenridge might be known for its ski resort, this former mining town at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range is preserved as the Breckenridge National Historic District, running primarily along Main Street, with colorfully painted Victorian buildings from the 1880s and ’90s housing shops, galleries and restaurants. It’s also one of the flatter running options in the area. Pro Tip: A good winter running option, as there are sidewalks and the streets are festooned with holiday lights. During the Holidays, 11.2 MILES and 250,000 dazzling lights transform Main Street into a glowing winter wonderland. And there’s the Race of the Santas event, first weekend in December.
Create your own route here — there are three principal streets that go for ~0.6 miles north from Jefferson St: Main St., Ridge St., and N French St. There are good sidewalks and numerous attractive, historic buildings. There’s also the short, 0.6 mile Riverwalk loop path anchored by Town Hall and the Blue River Plaza. For a longer option (and some hills), continue north on Main St. for 0.5 miles and turn RIGHT on the French Creek Trail, which heads up into a hilly residential neighborhood to the Breckridge Outdoor Education Center & Bike Park.
Add-On: Combine our downtown run with the Blue River Bikeway, the paved multi-use path that runs for 9.6 miles between downtown Breckenridge and downtown Frisco, mainly along Highway 9.
