Green Lakes State Park

Green Lake State Park, located 10 miles west of downtown Syracuse, is a lovely spot for some moderate trail running. There are 15+ miles of trails through woods and around the park’s two glacial lakes, which are popular for swimming. There are some flatter, easier options and some trails that are hillier with less even footing.

This trail map shows the numerous trail options. There are numerous overlapping trails — it’s helpful to print out a map. Good, longer options include the 1.9-mile Green Lake Trail, the 2.5 mile Deer Run Trail, and the 1.8 miles (one-way) Rolling Hills Trail.  For easier running, the Old Erie Canal Tow Path is located at near the main entrance. This gravel path stretches for miles in each direction. See our separate route here.

Essentials
  • 15+ miles of trails, with several good loop options
  • Some sections flatter, but there are some hillier options too
  • Depends on trail chosen. If running the Deer Run Trail, there's a separate parking area
  • Parking near main entrance off SR 290. Separate parking lot for Deer Run Trail
