Ruston Way

Creative Commons: Danemeade

The waterfront path along Ruston Way is one of the most scenic runs in Tacoma. A paved path runs from Jack Hyde Park in Old Tacoma north to Dune Park, following Ruston Way much of the time. There are great views of Commencement Bay, and of Mt. Rainier on a clear day. The distance is 3.6 miles. Ruston is a residential section of Tacoma.

Note: It’s tempting to think about combining this with Thea Foss Waterway for a longer waterfront run, it’s not possible to run along Shuster Pkwy, which connects them.

ADD-ON: Combine with Point Defiance Park, at the northern end of Ruston Way. Several miles of lovely paths, including 5-mile perimeter road. See our route there.

Essentials
  • Up to 3.6 miles one-way; Add on with Poin Definace Park
  • Flat
  • South End: Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park, near Old Town; North End: Dune Park
  • Numerous access points
