Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli

Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli is large natural park just west of Pisa that makes for a great spot for a destination run. The 56,000-acre park features a great variety of paths and trails for running, including woodlands, wetlands, dunes, beaches and the grounds of several historic estates. Given the park’s size and variety, we haven’t plotted specific routes. We recommend heading to the San Rossore visitor center to speak with one of the guides and get a map. Some trails are wide and easy for running, while there are also some more rugged trails.

A few favorites for running:

  • Viale del Gombo. Gorgeous, tree-lined allée typa path
  • Vione della Maddalena. Nice path exploring wetlands
  • Sentiero dei Tomboli. Lovely trails
  • Liberia Beach. Paths along beach and dunes, and a runnable beach.
The park is divided into a few main areas. Macchia Lucchese is the wooded strip to the north. The Massaciuccoli area includes the lake and the marshy area that surrounds it. There are the important estates of Migliarino , San Rossore and Tombolo, and Coltano, which have trails around farms and woods.
