For runners who want a challenge, the Coquitlam Crunch Trail is a thing to do! This trail, located just west of the center of Coquitlam, rises 261m over 2.9 km, and includes 894 stairs over 300 continuous meters. It’s a popular fitness challenge, on a combination paved & gravel trail through a sort of narrow linear park following the British Columbia Hydro right-of-way to the top of  Westwood Plateau.

The south end is at Runnel Dr., where there’s parking and restrooms. Follow the path north for 2.9 km. to the end at Eagle Mountain Dr. There are steps along several secti0ns of trail. The steepest section of trail is around Lansdowne Drive. North of David Ave., the trail is paved.

Use caution on the way back — the steepness can wreak havoc on the knees. And in winter, use caution if it’s icy!
