Mount Vernon Trail

Part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. A 17-mile paved hiking/cycling path in Northern Virginia that travels between Rosslyn and George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon. The section closer to DC runs by the airport, using the historic Arlington Bridge to cross from D.C. to Virginia. Points-of-interest include George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, Olde Town Alexandria, Arlington National Cemetery, and the local’s favorite Gravelly Point (at the north end of National Airport’s main runway).

  2. For airplane buffs, gravelly point is a must. The planes literally thunder right over your head.
