Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex

Creative Commons: Violmsyan

Tsitsernakaberd is site of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex. The memorial itself is an architecturally important building, commemorating the horrible genocide that occurred in 1915-16. The memorial sits within a large and imposing open square and park. It is suitable to run here, although we would recommend not running in the immediate vicinity of the memorial.

Start at the Monument to Karen Demirchyan, off Leningradyn St. There are paths and a good loop on the road around the perimeter of the Karen Demirtchian Sport/Concert Complex. Continue east. We recommend staying mainly around the outer perimeter paths, where it’s appropriate to run. Please be respectful in the area around Memory Alley. Overall, this can be a 4-5 km loop. The landscape is a mix of large open square/plaza, and some tree-lined paths.

Add-On: Hrazdan Gorge Rd., which is just to the north and east of Tsitsernakaberd, is a tree-lined road above a gorge. There’s a fairly narrow sidewalk, but some people to run there.
