This run in downtown St. Petersburg has lots of scenery and variety. Enjoy the North Bay Trail through several waterfront parks, a jaunt out the recently renovated St. Pete Pier, and an exploration of the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood, with tree-shaded streets and lovely homes. St. Petersburg is a neighbor city of Tampa, located ~20 miles southwest of Tampa.
Start the run at the Albert Whitted Park, site of the iconic Salvador Dalí Museum, a dramatic building with 900 glass panels. Run north on the North Bay Trail through a series of waterfront parks, which feature dedicated paths along the water and also some interior, landscaped paths. It’s a 3.3-mile straight shot to Coffee Pot Park. There are great views of the water and the burgeoning downtown skyline, and some grand 1920s-era mansions. OPTION: Scenic, 1-mile loop around Demens Landing Park (water views & spectacular boats in Yacht Basin) and a 1.2 mile out & back on St. Pete Pier, with panoramic views of Tampa Bay.
Continue north into North Shore Park, with an optional detour to Gisella Kopsick Palm Arboretum, with its impressive array of palm trees from around the world. Loop around the bay, passing the short bridge to Snell Island, to Coffee Pot Park.
For the return, you can retrace your steps along the water, or follow our mapped route through the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood. Founded in 1911, this special neighborhood is one of the two largest National Register districts in the State of Florida. Run under a dense canopy of large oaks, jacarandas, pines, palms, maples, and magnolias, and past historic homes with a rich mix of architecture including Mediterranean, Colonial, Bungalow, Craftsman, and Prairie Style. Choose your own adventure or follow the route map along prettier north-south streets (Poplar, Oak, & 1st) for 3 miles back to downtown.
Shorter Option: Do only a portion of the waterfront path or cut our the Demens loop.
Add-Ons: Cross the short bridge to Snell Isle and enjoy running on quiet, shaded streets with beautiful homes.
