You can’t visit Vermont without seeing some cows! This rail trail starts in St. Albans, winding northeast to Richford, providing direct access to old Vermont Dairy country.
A lovely, flat, nearly all off-road run in Newport, a small Northeast Kingdom city located on the southern shore of beautiful Lake Memphramagog. Lake views, farm fields, and 3.8 mile Beebe Spur Rail Trail that leads to the Canadian border.
Pretty spot for running, with lake and mountain views on Rt. 5A, which travels along the lake for 5.2 miles between Willoughby North Beach and Willoughby South Beach. Note: Narrow shoulder, but not too much traffic.
The Craftsbury Outdoor center is a legendary center for X-C skiing, mountain biking, sailing, rowing…and running! The Center is home to the Craftsbury Running Camp, rated Best of the Best by Runner’s World, July 2005.
A recently developed multi-use path that runs between Morrisville and Cambridge. The trail quite flat, with a smooth gravel surface. There are wonderful mountain views along the trail, with terrain alternating between woods and open farm fields.
Several wonderful routes in Vermont's signature city, including the Island Line Trail, UVM campus, South Burlington Rec Path, nearby Shelburne Farms, the Catamount Outdoor Center, and South Hero.
With over 20 miles of trails and loops ranging from 5k to 15k, the Catamount Outdoor Family Center is ideal for any skill level. The property is situated on two hills, making way for panoramic views of the Green Mountains. Note: fee required.

Waterbury is home to the Leaf Peepers 5K and Half Marathon, where people come from all over to take in views on this stunning course. The route takes runners through Waterbury, up Perry Hill Road to spectacular outlooks on the scenic Waterbury Community Path.
Some nice quiet roads around this 26,000-acre forest. Especially nice in fall. Some great roads for running between Cabot, East Cabot, and South Cabot. Also, Boulder Beach Rd./Railroad Bed in the Forest area, with some trail options too.
Carriage Trail is the site of the annual Leaf Chase 10K, making it a prime autumnal destination. It is located in Pine Hill Park, a revitalized alpine ski area turned into a beautiful 16-mile system of public trails.
This loop is a tour of the charming town of Woodstock, which is a popular visitors’ destination not far from the New Hampshire border. Our route starts at the Billings Farm & Museum, billed as a gateway to Vermont’s rural heritage and one of the finest operating dairy farms in America.
Favorite running options in the charming village of Quechee: covered bridge and quiet route along Lake Pinneo; and Old River Rd. in Taftsville. Also some great hill running options on quiet roads around the ski area and above Rt. 4.
A long covered bridge is the highlight of this course, home to Harpoon’s Octoberfest Road Race, a scenic tour of the Eastern Vermont township of Windsor.
Weston is an impossibly cute town in south central Vermont. With a barn red country store, a classical playhouse, mill buildings, and a picturesque central gazebo, it’s architecture and charm rival Gilmore Girls’ fictional New England hamlet of Stars Hollow.
You don’t need to travel far into Vermont to find a primo spot for foliage viewing. The Equinox Preservation Trust, accessible from just outside of Manchester, has 914 acres of woodlands with excellent running and foliage viewing conditions.
The highest elevation campground in Vermont makes Woodford State Park the perfect location for catching unparalleled views of the rich foliage. Just a short drive from Bennington, this trail encircles the Adams Reservoir.
This is a lovely trail long the West River with continuous views of the vibrant, golden Vermont hills. The southernmost point of the trail starts at the Marina Trailhead, just outside Brattleboro.
Enjoy 10 miles of scenic trails at Retreat Farm, which includes forests, fields, and even a stair climb to a ski jump! Wantastiquet Mountain is more rugged, challenging trail running.
Fantastic running on the Lake Champlain Islands, just north of Burlington. Lake & mountain views, rolling farmland. We've mapped several routes and pointed out the prettiest sections in South Hero, Grand Isle, North Hero, Alburgh, and Isle La Motte.
