Trail runners flock to Lanzanote for the challenging, hilly trails on the island’s volcanic landscape. But there’s also some gentler, bucolic seaside running showcasing the island’s beaches and whitewashed villages. Below are some of our favorite seaside promenades:
Google Street View
Arrecife to Playa Blanca Coastal Run. Up to 13 km one-way, 56m gain. A gorgeous run on a wide, palm-lined seafront promenade on the eastern side of Lanzarote. From the port town of Arrecife, the path goes for up to 13 km south to the viewpoint at Playa Grande. The path passes by several wide beaches, which themselves are runnable, situationally. ROUTE MAP
South side coastal path. Google Street View
Southern Side Coastal Run. Up to 10 km one-way, 38m gain. On the southern end of Lanzarote, a pretty seafront promenade runs almost continuously for 10 km from Playa de las Coloradas southwest to the Punta Pechiguera lighthouse (faro). Some sections of the path are above the rocky coast, and others are along beaches. There are some especially scenic viewpoints. The route includes a 1 km out and back jaunt to the ROUTE MAP

A gorgeous waterfront run in the popular Playa de las Americas area. Oceanfront promenades run for up to 9.5 km from the Los Cristanos to La Caleta. Great water views, lots of people, and more natural toward the north end.
Punta del Hidalgo, at the nothern end of Tenerife, is known for its rocky cliffs and rugged coastline. There's a nice road for running along the water that goes for 3 km from the village to Playa de los Troches.
Several routes showcasing the volcano on the rugged island of La Palma, including the biggest volcanic crater in the world. Great variety of terrain & scenery, including some wonderful views into the crater.
A compilation of some of the nicest waterfront running opportunities on Gran Canaria. Seafront promenades and bike paths ring the island. Some of the beaches are runnable as well. For a challenge, run the Maspalomas Dunes!
On the northern side of Gran Canaria, there are numerous opportunities for scenic running, including trails on the Isleta Peninsula, and then beaches & seafront promenade around the town of Las Palmas and down the east coast.
In the southern resort town of Maspalomas, a nice 10k run on a pedestrian path alongside a dry riverbed, leading to a promenade along Meloneras Beach. Inspired by Keith Hauser of joggingroutes.org
Some of the best places to run on Fuerteventura are the Agua Liques Desert Trail, the remote & spectacular Cofete Beach, and the seafront promenade and beaches around Corralejo on the island's north end.
