Gran Canaria: Maspalomas Riverfront Path & Beach Promenade

Google Street View

Maspalomas is a resort town in the south of Gran Canaria, known for its vast expanse of coastal dunes. There’s a very nice 10k run on a path alongside a dry riverbed, leading to a promenade along Meloneras Beach. This route was inspired by Keith Hauser of joggingroutes.org. The route can be shortened if you’d just prefer to do the river path or beach promenade.

Starting in Maspalomas, follow the pedestrian path along the west side of the Barranco de Fataga, a normally dry riverbed. The path goes for 2.75 km south to Maspalomas Beach, where a promenade runs west alongside the water for another 2.25 km, passing a lighthouse and several viewpoints, to Meloneras Beach. Note: the beach is quite pebbly and not great for running.

Add-On: Do a little jaunt around Parque Urbano del Sur, just north of the riverfront path.
