Just south of downtown, there’s some scenic running around Sweetwater Wetlands Park, a 125-acre man-made wetland habitat. There’s a 3.5 mile trail, combination crushed gravel and boardwalk, with nice water and open grassland views. Running is permitted, but be discrete, as this is a popular walking and birding area.
Longer Run: The Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail is at the eastern end of the park, with additional La Chua trails. Access from the Sweetwater Preserve E Trail. If you head north on the Hawthorne Trail, it’s 1.5 miles to Depot Park.
