The trails along Lake Simcoe are the signature run in Barrie. Two separate trails — the North Shore Trail and the Heritage Trail — combine for 6.2 km of running through a series of parks along the lakeshore. The paths are a combination of paved and stone dust. Some sections are inland through parks, and others are right along the lake, with great views. There’s good access from downtown.
Heritage Park. Google Street View
Heritage Trail Section. The southeastern end of this 3.2 km section starts as the Heritage Trail off Lakeshore Dr. just east of Allandale Park. There are great water views as you run through Allandale Park, Centennial Park, along the Barrie Marina, then passing the Spirit Catcher sculpture into Heritage Park.
North Shore Trail Section. From Heritage Park, the trail continues east along the lake for another 3 km to Penetanguishene Rd. There are good lake views the whole way. The trail passes through Johnson’s Beach & Kempenfelt Park.
Add-Ons. Near the north end of the trail at Penetanguishene Rd., you can pick up the Lake Country ORO Medonte Rail Trail, which follows an abandoned rail line for 28 km toward Orillia.

A nice run in western Barrie combining three parks, with a few road connections: Arboretum/Sunnidale Park, trails in the Sandy Hollow Buffer, and Lampman Park. Much of the route is on sections of the Nine Mile Portage Heritage Trail.
A pleasant run on a path through a narrow, long park following Hewitt's Creek. With the connector trail, it's a 6.7 km run. Can add with wooded path along Lovers Creek.
Good trail running spot in southern Barrie. 17 km of hilly, wooded trails over 548 acres. Well waymarked. This is moderately challenging trail running.
The best running in Orillia is 4.5 km along Lake Couchiching on a scenic waterfront path. Other good options are the Trans Canada trail headed north toward Georgian Bay or south toward Barrie.
Scenic waterfront running in this town 50 km northwest of Barrie on Nottawasaga Bay. Head east toward Turtle Rock, or west to White's Bay Park. Some 14 km of waterfront running possible!
