Of the various river path options in Liège, this route is focused on the sections along the Meuse River and Ourthe River headed south of town. It can be mix & matched with our Meuse north & ‘runseeing’ routes.

Liège to Chênée. Start at the Aquarium just across from the John F. Kennedy Bridge. Run south on the path alongside the east side of the Meuse River for 1 km. Nice views of the water and the historic centre across the way. The next 1 km is a pleasant section through the waterfront Parc de la Boverie, where there are additional paths. The next 3 km is on the path southeast along the Ourthe River, as far as Chênée. It’s also part of the RaveL 5 Ourthe cycleway. Overall, it’s a ~10k out and back!

Longer Option South on Ourthe River: From Chênée, it’s possible to continue for many km further south along the Ourthe River on the Velo Route 5 (RAVeL 5 Ourthe). The main path is on the west bank of the river. We’ve mapped an additional 10 km south to Mery. So it would be 15 km one-way from Liège to Mery. Along some of the way, there are paths on the east bank as well.  Good one-way option: there’s a train in Mery.

Add-Ons: Can mix and match with our Meuse north route and our Liège ‘runseeing’ tour.
