The several parks lining the Bega River are the highlight of running in Timișoara. Several beautiful parks are located along the river, forming a green belt that stretches for ~ 3km. We’ve mapped a loop route to use as a guideline, but each park has additional paths where you can create your own route. (Parcul=Park)
Roses Park
We start on the north bank of the river at Cathedral Park (Parcul Catedralei), which is located near the historic center and is anchored by the impressive “Three Hierarchs” Metropolitan Cathedral. Do a loop of the park’s paths, then head west to Anton von Scudier Park, redesigned in 2019 in the style of Vienna’s Schönbrunn Gardens. There are outdoor art installations, fountains, & lovely paths (~1 km perimeter loop), including the Alley of Personalities. Head back east through Cathedral Park, passing through Parcul Justiției, which connects to Roses Park, which is known for its colorful rose gardens. Continue east into Ion Creangă Children’s Park, which features shaded paths and a replica fairly castle. Cross into Parcul Andrei Mocioni, the easternmost of the riverfront parks. Continue to the end, crossing the short Dacilor Bridge to the south bank.
Google Street View
For the return, run west on the path along the south bank of the Bega River for 0.8 km into Regina Maria Park, which dates back to 1852. Continue along park paths, passing through an area of recreational facilities including a pool, tennis courts, and a running track at Ştiința Stadium. Run along the riverfront path, crossing the Andrei Șaguna Bridge back into Cathedral Park.
