This Northern Strand Community Trail is a new, paved long-distance multi-use trail that runs from Everett to Lynn. It’s been built in stages over the years, and is now complete! Also called ‘Bike to the Sea’, this trail is a good opportunity for an off-road run in the towns the trail passes through as it winds its way north through Everett, Malden, Saugus, and Lynn.

The southern terminus is at the Encore Boston Casino in Everett, where there’s a lovely path through gorgeously landscaped gardens and some nice water views. From there, the paved trail continues for 10 miles north to Lynn. The southern section is a bit more industrial, with numerous road crossings. The most scenic sections are Rumney Marshes (~mile 5) and where the trail crosses the Saugus River (miles 7.5-9.0). The northern end if off Summer St. in Lynn. There are plans to extend the trail for another 1.5 miles to Lynn Beach, which would be a fantastic way of connecting to the sea and our scenic Swampscott & Nahant waterfront/beach runs.

A few good add-ons/connections from the Northern Strand:

  • Everett Casino paths. At the southern terminus of the trail, a scenic ~1 mile path along the Mystic & Malden rivers.
  • Mile 1: offshoot paths along the Malden River at Rivergreen Park
  • Mile 8.2: It’s 1.2 miles north to Lynn Woods Reservation, where there are many miles of fantastic trail running.
