For those staying near Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, there are some decent running options. The airport, the second largest in China in terms of passenger traffic and one of the world’s Top 50, is located 25 km northeast of the center of Chongqing. The best running options are just to the west of the airport, in Bijin Park and Shuanglonghu Park — which can be run separately or combined for a longer run.
STAY: There’s a large selection of hotels just west of the airport and near these two running parks.
Bijin Park
This pleasant green space just west of Airport Boulevard, is nice for running. There’s a mix of lakefront paths, forested sections, and landscaped gardens. There are shaded sections. Like many other running spots in Chonqing, the terrain is rolling hills. A loop around the perimeter paths is 2-3 km, and overall one can stitch together a ~5 km run.
Shuanglonghu Park
Shuanglonghu Park is adjacent to Bijin Park, just across Shuanglonghu Blvd. This 25 hectare park is built around Shuanglong Lake, and features scenic paved paths along the lake shore. There are some nice garden features and some platforms that jut out into the lake. A full loop is ~5 km, though there’s a missing section of path at the far north end (use Beihu Rd. as a ‘bridge’). Best access is via West Gate. Pro Tip: Waterfront paths are lit at night!
- To combine with Bijin Park, use Shuanglonghu Blvd. to West Gate.
- Chongqing Central Park: one of the most popular places to run in Chonqing is ~3 km west of Shuanglonghu Park (via road connections) and 6 km west of the airport.
