Hart Park and Other Area Options

Wikimedia Commons

While Hart Park is on the far northeast outskirts of the city, it’s one of the best running spots in the area. In addition to the long paved route along the Kern River, runners can access any of the other trails in the extensive network. There are 2-mile and 6.5-mile loops in the park, reaching into the scenic hills above the river. Access to these trails starts off Mirror Drive on the south side of Alfred Harrell Highway. Those who want to stick to the easy-going multi-use paths can start at Kiddyland Drive and head east through Kern River County Park. It’s about 4 miles to Lake Ming Road, or 8 miles out and back.
