Those looking for some trail running near Baltimore should drive 10 miles west to Patapsco Valley State Park. This huge park, located along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, features 200 miles of trails (70 miles are maintained). There’s a mix of easier multi-use trails and more rugged trails. Trail runners will find something for all abilities here. The terrain is mainly wooded. Most of the trails are narrow.
With so many miles of trails, it’s difficult to proscribe a particular running route here. The park is divided five areas. From east to west: Halethorpe, Avalaon/Orange Grove/Hilton, Pickall, Woodstock, & McKeldin. Each area has its own trail map. From this page, you can view or download the trail map for each area.
There is a ‘Thru Trail that mainly follows the river. It’s fairly flat, narrow, and wooded.
