The route of this popular 10K race covers almost all the running perks Block Island has to offer: ranging views from the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic, and peaceful stone-wall lined dirt roads traversing through rolling farmland. The highlight of this course is commonly known as “The Wall,” an invigorating climb at mile four which separates the wannabes from the devotees. The race is timed with the blossoming of the shad trees on the island, hence the name.
Starting from the Block Island School, the course winds down Payne Road, around a lake, and out to Rodman’s Hollow before reaching a picturesque stretch along the island’s southern coast, including the beautiful Mohegan Trail. For more information, check out the race website.
