An extensive canal system runs from just west of the center of Brussels north and south. The sections near the center are OK for running, but quite busy and there is not a seamless pedestrian trail. The most pleasant sections close to the center are from the Porte de Ninove, at the intersection of the N8/R20. Head south from here for miles. It gets especially nice and runner-friendly south of Anderlecht. There are bridges to cross from one side to the other, and paths on both sides, in areas. Another bonus is that there are buses and trains that run along the N6 paralleling the canal, so run one-way to Halle and hop on a train back!

Two great options for 'runseeing' Brussels: A ~3 mile tour of some of the more the main sites: Cathedrals, castles, museums, parks. Mainly west of Parc Bruxelles. Also a longer, 15k tour, designed by City Runs, that features most of Brussels' highlights.
An opportunity to run two of the city’s nicest parks and also enjoy some important sites, including the Arcades du Cinquantenaire and several important museums.
Another 'runseeing' option on Brussels, mainly west of Parc Bruxelles. Incorporates Botanical Garden, and run out to Chocolate Village and Parc Elizabeth/National Basilica, finishing along the north side of the Old City. A 7-mile tour.
Bois de Cambre, 2 miles from the city, is a little larger and more rugged than Parc Bruxelles and Cinquantenaire. Lots of lovely paths, including ~1 mile around the lake.
In the eastern part of Brussels, a nice run between Rodebeek and Auderghem, connecting several parks: Parc Malou, Parc des Sources, & Parc de Woluwe. Wooded & open terrain, a couple of small lakes, Château Malou, and additional paths in the parks.
A worth-it destination run just south and east of Brussels. Vast network trails in this 10,000+ acre area of parks, arboretums, & nature preseves. A highlight is the Royal Walk in the Tervuren Arboretum. Numerous marked walks & running loops.
A nice, green option near Brussels Park. It’s possible to put together ~2.5 fairly hilly miles. The Parc de Forest is more graceful, Parc Duden more rugged.
The best running near the Brussels Expo is a series of parks, which added together are ~5 miles from one end to the other. This area is north of the city.
We've put together several great running routes in the beautiful city of Leuven. Only 25 km from Brussels or a 20 minute train ride. Tour the Old Town, run along the River Dye, or enjoy its parks, preserves, & wooded paths.
