The Cayman Islands

Safehaven/North Sound Golf Club

For those staying in the Seven Mile Beach area, the quiet streets of the Safehaven neighborhood make for a nice run. The main run is along Safehaven Dr., along the edge of the North Sound Golf Club. This is a nearly 5 km out and back on a  minimally-trafficked street, with nice homes and some water views. It’s a good alternative or add-on to busier West Bay Road. In terms of access, there’s a tunnel underneath the main road at the start of the Ritz Carlton golf course.

Note: The road is asphalt but it does get tricky to follow it back fully around the golf course as you do have to pass by two gate houses that look like private roads.  So runners have to go through the first gate house and turn left and follow the road and then turn left when they see another gate house and then turn right after the gate house to stay on the periphery of the golf course.

Add-Ons: At the far end of Safehaven you can continue into a small pine wood forest with nice trails and ocean views at various points. For additional mileage, you may be able to add on some side streets, but keep in mind that some of these developments are gated communities. Runners can also combine Safehaven with a West Bay Road or Esterly Tibbetts Highway run.

Group Run: The Westin is currently scheduling Mon, Wed and Fri morning 6:30 am guided runs on the Safehaven route.

Note: Seven Mile Beach can also be runnable, but generally only around low tide.
