This ‘Runseeing Tour’ of the historic section of Bergamo, the Città Alta, features an off-road path around the old city walls, great views, and some of the city’s most important sights. The highlight of the route is the Piattaforma di Sant’Andrea, a paved path just outside of the old city fortress that runs for 1.7 km from the Viale delle Mura to the Punto Panoramico scenic overview. It’s a steady climb of 70m. Great views! Here, you can do an out and back, or loop back through the Città Alta, using the main street that runs from Piazza della Cittadella to the Antico Lavatoio, or wind your way through the narrow, maze-like streets. It’s mainly a pedestrian area, but it can be crowded. You can also discover other fun stairways and paths in the area.
Loop Option: From the Punto Panoramico, take Via Costantino Beltrami for 0.3 km to a gravel, wooded path that runs for 0.7 km to Via Roccolino, then use Via Maironi Giovanni da Ponte/Via della Boccola to enter the heart of the Città Alta.
- Loop Option: 4.6 km (2.9 miles)
- HILLY! 187m (614 feet)
- Viale delle Mura
- A funicular can access the Città Alta
