This is a ‘runseeing’ tour of Cartagena, a port city founded in 200 B.C. by the Carthaginians and known for its Roman ruins. Use our mapped route as a guideline to the sites and streets of the Casco Antiguo.
Start at the Plaza de España, and run toward the water on the mainly pedestrianized C. Carmen/Murcia/Mayor. At ~1 km, you’ll reach the area around the Teatro Romano de Cartagena and Castillo de la Concepción, an iconic hilltop castle from the Middle Ages, with city views, a history center. It’s a hilly, scenic ~1 km loop! Then, head toward the water and do run along the port/marina area (~0.8 km).
At the end of the marina, head north through the Cuesta del Batel park — mainly a large green space with views of the old city walls. Continue on C. Sor Francisca Armendáriz to do a jaunt around the running track at the Pista Municipal de Atletismo sports complex. Head west on Av. Reina Victoria Eugenia, and do a loop around the pretty Parque de Los Juncos, then returning to Plaza de Españaon Alameda de San Antón.
Add-Ons: Explore more of the streets & sites of the Casco Antiguo.
