Umgeni River Path

Runners will find a short but pleasant path along the north bank of the Umgeni River. Though it follows the bustling M21 (Riverside Road), there are some lovely river views in sections. The brick path itself is in great condition. From the west, the path begins at Umgeni Bird Park near the intersection of Riverside Road and Buttery Road. It runs east for about 2.5 km until it reaches the Ruth First Highway and Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve. Here, runners can access the dirt trails of the nature reserve, or head south across the Ruth First Bridge to continue running Blue Lagoon Park and the Durban Beach Promenade.

Add-Ons: Durban Beach Promenade. You can cross Ruth First Bridge, but note it’s a highway and the sidewalk along the bridge is narrow.
