Birch Hill Recreation Area

Wikimedia Commons

Birch Hill is something of a skier’s paradise in the wintertime, but come summer the trails open up to recreators of all sorts, runners included. Trails vary in difficulty, but none are too steep for running, and the terrain is mostly agreeable. See this trail map for route options. Note: running on the trails is not permitted in winter.

One of the favorite summertime routes here is the Blackhawk Loop on the east side of the park. Starting from the ski lodge, use the Sonot Connector to slimb 2 km to the Blackhawk Loop. Then, follow the Blackhawk Loop counter-clockwise for 2.2 km. Return on the Sonot Connector for a total of 6.2 km.
