Start at Eyre Square, Galway’s signature public place and popular meeting spot. The first 3 km is an out and back to St Patrick’s Garrison Church using a dedicated path called “The Line” Railway Side Walk. [Option: do the full loop of Lough Atalia (lake)]. Return to Eyre Square and take Dock Rd., doing a loop around the marina on The Long Walk (& short run!). Then head north on the walkway along the River Corrib for 0.8 km, crossing the Salmon Weir Bridge to the Galway Cathedral. Do a loop of the grounds, then cross the pedestrian O’Shaughnessy Bridge to head south on road along the west side of the Eglington Canal. Take the Wolfe Tone Bridge (Griffin Rd.) to return to the start.
Add-Ons:At the O’Shaughnessy Bridge is the University of Galway, which has some nice grounds for running. Can also join our waterfront route, heading south from the Wolfe Tone Bridge.

The highlight of running in Galway is the several miles of roads and promenades along the River Corrib and the North Atlantic, mainly headed south of the historic center to Salthill. Nice water views & historic highlights!
A pleasant 4.4 km loop around the Lough Atlalia (Lake), nearly all on dedicated walkways. Nice water views! Can be combined with our other central Galway routes for a longer run.
The largest woodland area near Galway. Some 4-5 km of pleasantly wooded paths around the former Waithman estate, and also the remains of Merlin Castle.
