Features:
This trailblazer route features Mugdock Country Park, where an extensive trail network provides options for trail runners of all skill levels to sling together a hilly DIY route. The park is a 20 minute train ride to Milngavie station. In addition to another nice view over Glasgow, this park includes the remains of the 14th-century Mugdock Castle, stronghold of the Grahams of Montrose, and the ruins of the 19th century Craigend Castle, a Gothic Revival mansion, World War anti-aircraft trenches, and a former Zoo park.
We’ve mapped a 10+ km loop starting at the Milngavie train station and doing a loop around the park including a jaunt by the castle. But there are many options to vary the route along the park’s many trails. For an even longer run, enjoy a section of the West Highland Way, a linear long distance footpath between Milngavie and Fort William, passes through the outer areas of the park alongside the local Clyde Coastal Path.
