Änggårdsbergen Reserve

It may feel as though you’re in the big city in Gothenburg, but that doesn’t mean you have to forsake trail running. The Änggårdsbergen Reserve, near Hogsbo, is a favorite for runners who like a little dirt in their routine. At 320 hectares, this park has a variety of trails to choose from, from easy strolling paths to technical climbs up ridges. The trails are through heathland and moorland typical of Western Sweden. You might even see ancient burial sites, dating back to the Bronze Age!

One of the most beloved routes is to start at the botanical gardens and loop south on the trail around Änggårdsbergen’s northernmost lake. It’s only about 2.5 miles (4 km), but the terrain will make it feel like a much longer workout. There are additional trails, some more rugged and popular for mountain biking. Can also be combined with the Slottsskogen route for extra distance.
