Furman University, located 6 miles north of Greenville on Swan Lake, is a popular spot in the area for walking and running. The university has a very pretty, green campus, with its Bell Tower sitting on the edge of the lake, Thoreau replica cabin, and numerous walking paths and trails. A run around Furman can also be combined with the Swamp Rabbit Trail, runs along the western side of the lake.

The best running options at Furman include a mapped 5k route, which skirts the perimeter of the campus and provides a good overview. Combine this with some trails and paths around the Intramural Field on the northeast side of the lake, and additional trails between Old Roe Ford Rd. and Highway 276. You can even sneak onto the golf course when it’s quiet!

Essentials
  • Mapped 5 km (3.1 mile) course; Additional trails, including Swamp Rabbit Trail on western side of lake
  • On campus.
